Helmut Marko reveals Verstappen’s accident costs
Red Bull will have to break the piggy bank after the Dutchman's accident at Silverstone.

This Sunday, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen collided during the first lap of the British Grand Prix. The Dutch driver was the victim of this collision as he hit the safety barrier with rare violence, the impact was 51G.
His RB16B was then completely destroyed. The Austrian team was pessimistic about the state of the single-seater chassis and Honda also had doubts about their engine. The Japanese manufacturer is rather optimistic after the initial analyses and hopes to save it, which could be good news for Red Bull and Verstappen.
If the hybrid turbo V6 can be repaired, the car has nevertheless suffered significant damage. In an interview with RTL, Red Bull’s young driver program manager, Helmut Marko, revealed an estimate of the cost of repairs.
At the current state of affairs, we are talking about roughly three quarters of a million euros, even though the engine situation is not yet entirely clear. But especially in a period of cost containment, it is a significant amount that hurts us. » he confided.
Knowing that Valtteri Bottas’ crash at Imola had cost Mercedes 1.1 million euros and that this expense had penalized him with a Pirelli test session, Red Bull and Verstappen will probably have to look at the accounts to manage the end of the season.
