On Tuesday, the Commission Hamilton, founded by the seven-time world champion, delivered its report aimed at bringing more diversity to the paddock and integrating ethnic minorities, especially the black community. Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali had stated that he would review this document and that Formula 1 would take actions very soon.

It’s now done. Just 24 hours after the report was published, Formula 1 announced that it would take action, notably thanks to a donation of one million dollars from the non-executive vice president of the sport, Chase Carey. With these donations, scholarships will be created and will be awarded to ethnic minorities, women, and those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

F1 is hiring

Seven people from underrepresented backgrounds will have the chance to study engineering at prestigious universities in England and Emilia-Romagna, starting in September. Formula 1 teams have also committed to taking action, as 10 students will be offered professional experiences during their course within their team.

Formula 1 also announced that two people from these underrepresented groups will join the entity as apprentices from September. In addition, six other people (including 2 already in position) will be recruited as interns within the competition team and the marketing team.

The Formula 1 is an international sport with fans all over the world. We want to be as diverse as our fan community, which is why we are taking action to ensure that talented individuals from underrepresented groups have the best opportunities to join this amazing sport and build a fantastic career in it,” the CEO of F1 said.

« I am delighted to announce that students, apprentices, and trainees will have the opportunity to fulfill their dreams in Formula 1, and I know they have an incredible future ahead of them. I would like to extend a special thank you to Chase, whose generous donation is funding the ten scholarships. »

Our #WeRaceAsOne platform is our commitment to bring about real change and shows that we recognize the need to make a positive contribution to the world in which we live. All teams are involved in this effort, and the work of the Hamilton Commission demonstrates the motivation to address these issues in Formula 1.

« We focus on diversity, inclusivity, ecology, and community, and we will continue our projects aiming for more diversity, more ecology, and to make a lasting positive impact on the countries and communities we visit. We know we have to continue to progress on these issues, and the entire F1 is united on this for the months and years to come,” concluded Stefano Domenicali.
