This is a big first for Liam Lawson. The New Zealand driver will take the wheel of an F1 car for the first time this weekend at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. As a junior program member, he will have the chance to drive Sebastian Vettel’s RB7, with which he won the world championship in 2011.

Lawson went to the Red Bull factory in Milton Keynes this week to shape his seat and test its installation in the single-seater. The current F2 driver will make several demonstrations behind the wheel of a car he used to watch on TV when he was younger. The New Zealander will also drive the Ferrari 488 GT3 that he uses in his DTM races.

Driving the Formula 1 car he admired a few years ago is a dream come true for Liam Lawson. “I am driving the Red Bull RB7 and it is my first experience in Formula 1, so it’s extremely exciting. I went to get my seat molded in the car this week and it was quite a crazy experience. The RB7 is the 2011 car and I remember when I was nine years old, watching the championship and watching Vettel dominate. Honestly, I find it hard to believe that I am going to drive this car. I am really excited, they even put my name on the side, which is pretty cool,” Liam Lawson told our colleagues at Motorsport.com.
