Official: Lewis Hamilton stays
Lewis Hamilton has decided not to extend last year's saga about his future: he has just extended for two more seasons with Mercedes.

In the space of just six months, Lewis Hamilton will have signed two contract extensions with Mercedes. It had been necessary to wait until February 8 for Lewis Hamilton to announce that he was extending his presence in F1 for one more season. Such a short duration could suggest that the seven-time world champion was considering leaving the sport at the end of a season that would have seen him win his eighth title and become the most successful driver in history.
Except that the season is not going as planned and Max Verstappen is currently leading the championship. The battle promises to be tight and uncertain until the end of the season as teams will soon shift all their efforts to the development of next season.
This struggle with the plumb line may have awakened the competitive instinct of the British driver, who has therefore decided to stay for two more seasons. This gives him the opportunity to experience the new era of the sport that is unfolding. He believes that his current employer will provide him with the necessary equipment to continue his quest for all the records in the sport.
Toto Wolff stated: As we approach the new era of F1 from 2022, there is no better driver than Lewis for our team. His success in this sport speaks for itself. With his experience, speed, and race craft, he is at the top of his game. We love the battle on the track that we have this year. That’s why we wanted to sign quickly to have no distractions related to the on-track fight.
