For several months, discussions have been ongoing between the officials of the teams and the representatives of the engine manufacturers regarding the future of the technical regulations of Formula 1. In 2025, Formula 1 aims to create and introduce a new, more powerful engine that would generate excitement.

This Saturday, a new meeting will be organized in Austria and will bring together all these stakeholders to assess the situation and communicate the demands of the major manufacturers regarding the discipline.

According to information provided to Motorsport.com, this meeting would be the last chance to convince Volkswagen to commit to the discipline. The next engine regulations could attract the German manufacturer to join F1, at least that’s what the participants in the meeting and McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl hope.

« Ultimately, I think it is simply important that, whatever the next regulation on power units, it must be technology-relevant. Because that’s the key, both to keep current manufacturers interested in F1, and also to attract new manufacturers. To determine what it is in detail, honestly, I think it’s a question to be addressed to the manufacturers or suppliers involved,” he told our colleagues at Motorsport.com.

John Elkann (Ferrari), Luca de Meo (Alpine/Renault), Ola Källenius (Mercedes) will be present at this debate as well as Markus Duesmann (representative of Volkswagen), Olivier Blume (CEO of Porsche) and Dietrich Mateschitz (co-founder of Red Bull). Of course, the CEO of F1 Stefano Domenicali, Ross Brawn, and the president of the FIA, Jean Todt, will also join this meeting.
