The history between Formula 1 and cinema is once again expanding. Manish Pandey’s company will produce an eight-episode documentary series on the life of Bernie Ecclestone. Entitled “Lucky!”, the series will recount the career of the former F1 boss. Scenes were filmed at his Swiss home during the lockdown.

After making the excellent documentary on Ayrton Senna and the movie Heroes with former legendary drivers such as Michèle Mouton and Mika Hakkinen, Pandey will now focus on the career of the businessman.

« This is the first time I trust someone to tell my story and that of Formula 1, and Manish is the only storyteller and director who, in my opinion, can bring them to the screen. And he is not only a great storyteller, he is also a huge fan. He has been watching Formula 1 since he could walk, his knowledge of this world and its actors is encyclopedic and his passion unmatched,” Bernie Ecclestone admitted.

The series should unveil the story and life of the billionaire, as well as the impressive growth of the discipline he managed, with images from the Formula One Management.

Pandey is delighted to trace the life of a man who traveled the world for nearly 90 years and met the most legendary athletes.

« Bernie was able to reflect not only on the period when he was one of the greatest sports impresarios of all time, but also on his life. Over his 90 years, he traveled the world and met all the big names, but he remains incredibly friendly and extremely funny. It’s a joy to tell his extraordinary story in its entirety for the first time,” declared the director.

The businessman initially attempted a career as a pilot, which unfortunately did not work out. Ecclestone then returned to F1, after making a fortune in real estate, as manager of Jochen Rindt (the only posthumous world champion), before buying the Brabham team in 1971. In the mid-1970s, he took advantage of the growing interest in F1 to become the financial master of the discipline until 2017 and the purchase of Formula 1 by Liberty Media.

The release date and the platform on which the series will be broadcast have not yet been announced.
