The Honey Badger is back! This Sunday, Daniel Ricciardo lived up to his reputation. The Australian driver had a very solid Grand Prix, putting on a show on the track with daring overtakes.

From the start, the McLaren driver made an excellent start and passed his teammate on the outside at the first turn. The Australian then remained stuck behind the veteran Spanish driver, Fernando Alonso, for many laps. He managed to overtake him after a very nice braking (his trademark) at the chicane that cuts the Mistral straight.

Daniel Ricciardo then took advantage of a very good strategy from his team to attempt an undercut on Pierre Gasly. This one worked since car #3 came out of the pits two places ahead of the Frenchman. The wave of pit stops benefited the Australian who was also able to overtake Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari.

Once in the pack, the McLaren driver overtook his competitors one by one and quickly managed to regain a scoring position. The Australian also took advantage of Aston Martin’s staggered strategy to gain two more places in the second half of the race. After a very convincing race, the Australian finished this event in 6th position, just behind his teammate. The Honey Badger seems to have adapted to his McLaren, he who was struggling since his first laps with his new single-seater.

The good move for McLaren.

Impressive since the start of the season, Lando Norris once again achieved a new Top 5. The young British driver is to this day the only driver to have finished every race in the points. Furthermore, he has always finished, with the exception of the Spanish Grand Prix, among the top 5 in the race.

Thanks to their drivers’ 5th and 6th place, McLaren takes back the 3rd place in the constructor standings, benefiting from Ferrari, who leave Le Castellet with a score of zero due to excessive tyre degradation.
