Juan Manuel Correa rejoins the Sauber Academy

At the beginning of 2019, the American driver had joined the Sauber young driver program, which is directly linked to the Alfa Romeo team. That same year, Correa was able to test for Fred Vasseur’s team at the Castellet circuit with a Formula 1 car.

While he was competing in Formula 2, the American-Ecuadorian driver suffered a violent accident at Spa-Francorchamps (which cost Anthoine Hubert’s life), keeping him away from the track for many months due to very serious leg injuries.

Now fully recovered, Correa was able to resume competing at the beginning of the Formula 3 season with the ART Grand Prix team. Back on the circuits, the driver will once again benefit from the support and guidance of Sauber, news that delights the 21-year-old pilot.

« It’s very special to be back within the Sauber Academy. It’s the junior program of the team I was with in 2019 when I experienced my first and only F1 test, and it’s great to work with them again. I am looking forward to wearing the academy’s logo on my car and helmet, starting this weekend in France, and I am eager to help the team whenever they need me, in the simulator or elsewhere. »
