Another podium: Gasly’s new masterclass in Baku!
French snatches the third podium of his career, this time thanks to a 3rd place in Baku!
Another feat from Pierre Gasly! After Interlagos 2019, Monza 2020, here is Baku 2021: the AlphaTauri driver clinched the 3rd place in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2021 this Sunday, June 6th.
Well placed from the start with his 4th place (equaling his best career qualifying), the Frenchman was in the race the whole time.
« It was such an intense race. The car was amazing all weekend. Every session, we were there » rejoiced the AlphaTauri driver in the Heat in the Parc Fermé.
I did not know if we would be able to keep this position (4th) or even get on the podium. So I finished 1st once in my career, 2nd once, and now 3rd once, it’s incredible to clinch this spot.

Big fight at the end of the race with Leclerc and Norris
Once again in fourth place in the final laps after the crash and puncture of Verstappen, Gasly moved up to third after Hamilton’s straight on the restart with 2 laps to go. But he had to defend himself at the very end of the race against Leclerc’s Ferrari, and Lando Norris’ McLaren in the background.
And get past the Monegasque: « I had to push my muscles and show that I wasn’t going to give up. I knew that these last laps would be tough because Sainz’s Ferrari had already overtaken me during the race. I really had to try my luck until the end, I wanted this 3rd place after such a good weekend. »

Thing done and French’s first podium in Baku with this performance from Gasly, now eighth in the World Drivers’ Championship. In total, it’s the 307th podium achieved by a French in Formula 1!
