Pirelli will provide its C3, C4, and C5 tires at the Baku circuit. The drivers will therefore have the same compounds as they did at the Monaco Grand Prix. A first at the Azerbaijani circuit.

For the first time, we are bringing the softest tires of the range to Azerbaijan, as seen also in Monte Carlo. The reason for this nomination is that the hard tire was not used at all during the Baku race in 2019, while the medium was widely used,” explains Mario Isola, the director of Pirelli F1.

« The softest tires in the Pirelli Formula 1 range were selected for the first time at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix: C3 as P Zero White hard, C4 as P Zero Yellow medium, and C5 as P Zero Red soft. This is a softer step than in 2019 (the last time the race was run) and the same nomination as Monaco. »

With this choice of tires, the Italian brand hopes to offer teams more strategic variety. By reassigning nominations, we hope to see the three compounds play a significant role and lead to different strategies, admits Mario Isola.

Pirelli also explains that the track is one of the least aggressive on the calendar, and that the tarmac does not deteriorate the tires sufficiently, which explains the choice of the softest compounds in their range.
