Nico Hülkenberg is involved in Formula 1 again. After being the substitute driver for Racing Point in 2020, the 33-year-old German will continue his adventure with the Enstone team as a development and reserve driver.

The former Renault driver is familiar with the team as he raced for them between 2013 and 2016 and had the opportunity to replace Sergio Perez for 2 Grand Prix races in 2020 and Lance Stroll at the Nürburgring.

Hülkenberg brings his Formula 1 experience back to Aston Martin, which will greatly help the engineers develop the car. The native of Emmerich am Rhein had played a major role in the development of Renault between 2017 and 2019.

Otmar Szafnauer, the Team Principal of Aston Martin, seems very pleased to have Hülkenberg on board of the British team: “We are delighted to be able to welcome Nico back to the team in an official capacity, as a reserve and development driver for the Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One™ team. In these difficult times, the need for a competent and experienced reserve driver has never been greater. Last year, Nico proved that he could jump into the car and quickly understand it to deliver very strong performances. Now, with additional room for preparation and integration, we know that we can rely on Nico to do an excellent job.”
