Pirelli to continue equipping Formula 1 single-seaters until 2024
An agreement has been reached between the FIA and Italian tire supplier Pirelli to extend the company's Formula 1 contract by a further year.

Formula 1 single-seaters will continue to exclusively use Pirelli tires. It’s official.
Engaged in Formula 1 for over 70 years, Pirelli wishes to continue research and development in service to motorsport, especially as the upcoming new regulations will see the switch from 13-inch to 18-inch tires next season.
The agreement reached with Pirelli comes in response to a year marked by the Covid19 crisis. A crisis that has affected both technically and financially the programs of all stakeholders in Formula 1, notably the teams and equipment manufacturers. With the decision to postpone the introduction of the new regulations from 2021 to 2022, the 13-inch tires currently used will be maintained until the end of 2021 before switching to 18 inches between 2022 and 2024. This one-year delay has thus impacted the partnership between Pirelli and Formula 1, shifting the deadline from 2023 to 2024.
Stefano Domenicali, head of Formula 1 and former sporting director of the Scuderia Ferrari, welcomed this agreement. “We are proud of this partnership with Pirelli and we are grateful for its constructive approach…we are aware of the importance of tires in competition and know that Pirelli is working hard to find the best combination between performance and durability in this new context,” Stefano Domenicali said following the announcement of the new agreement.
It is important that Pirelli has contributed to the development of the new 2021 tires and has also done a lot of testing on the 18″ tires. It is therefore logical that the manufacturer wins this contract, although it is not unanimous among the paddock or the spectators.
