Esports: An explosive new lineup at Mercedes in 2021
It's in a tweet that the Mercedes F1 Esports team announced its two new drivers for the 2021 season, who are none other than Jarno Opmeer and Dani Moreno. But why is this new line-up exciting?
With a disappointing 2020 season that saw Mercedes finish in 4th place with 107 points (224 points behind the leader), it was necessary to rethink their strategy. To return to the forefront, Mercedes decided to sign some of the most talented drivers in the discipline for 2021. Although the star brand lost its double world champion (2017-2018), Brendon Leigh, it gained the current champion, Jarno Opmeer. The Dutchman had a very successful 2020 season with Alfa Romeo, winning a third of the races last year.

This line-up is completed by Dani Moreno, who had his first season in Esports this year and impressed everyone with his impressive consistency and his podium at Silverstone, allowing him to finish in 6th place in the championship. A very promising result for the ex-McLaren driver, who will now be teammates with a world champion and Bono Huis, a simracer who has had much success in numerous games.
It will be interesting to see how Mercedes will manage to fight against the new forces on the grid, Red Bull and Alfa Romeo, and if these driver changes will bear fruit.
Note that the title offers the winning team a handsome sum of $750,000.
