Assessment of the French drivers: Gasly solid and careful
Le Normand concludes with a solid race with beautiful overtakes. A successful performance reflecting his season. Pierre Gasly finishes 8th in Abu Dhabi.

9th at the start, equipped with soft tires, Pierre Gasly loses a place to his compatriot Esteban Ocon during the first lap, even though the latter has medium tires, theoretically less effective at the start.
The AlphaTauri driver fully intends to regain his starting position and immediately puts pressure on the Renault driver, who yields his position with a well-executed heavy braking maneuver by Pierre Gasly at the end of the straight, as early as lap 2.
Le Normand continues his comeback and catches up with his teammate, who was better positioned at the start, by the 8th lap. Also equipped with red tires, the Russian can do nothing against the maneuver of the Frenchman, who manages the beginning of his race very well.
The Virtual Safety Car on lap 10 related to Perez’s mechanical retirement represents an ideal opportunity to change the worn-out soft tires. The Norman therefore pits to switch to hard tires; he exits in 11th place.
On lap 21, the AlphaTauri driver easily overtakes a struggling Charles Leclerc and gets back into the points.
Superb overtaking by Gasly on Stroll on lap 30. The Frenchman surprises the Canadian under braking and takes the 9th place.
Two laps later, he engages in a great battle against Sebastian Vettel, who is trying to hold onto his 8th place in his farewell Grand Prix with Ferrari. The German attempts to counter after the AlphaTauri driver’s braking overtake, but the latter maintains his line and acceleration to triumph over the SF1000.
He maintains his position until the end of the race by delivering another well-managed performance, punctuated by meticulous maneuvers.
“I’m very happy to have finished 8th. It was an intense race with a lot of overtaking and some battles on the track.”
