Mattia Binotto, unwell, left the Yas Marina circuit this morning, the venue of the last Grand Prix of the 2020 season. Ferrari will have to manage without its director for the third time this year. In fact, the Ferrari director had deliberately chosen not to attend all the Grand Prix in order to focus on the development of future Maranello single-seaters.

His departure would not be related to the coronavirus as the tests reportedly came back negative. His health condition is not considered concerning, but a few days of rest would be necessary for him.

In his absence, it is the Frenchman Laurent Mekies, the team’s sporting director, who should take the reins of the Italian command bridge. He had assumed this position during the Turkish Grand Prix and that of Bahrain.

Mattia Binotto will therefore not be there for the last Grand Prix of the season, but especially for Sebastian Vettel’s final Grand Prix with the Ferrari team. The two men will see each other again next year, but no longer in the same team. Indeed, the German driver will be at the wheel of an Aston Martin next year.
