It’s a famous name in F1 history that will once again appear on the drivers’ standings. Mick Schumacher, 21 years old, son of the seven-time German world champion Michael Schumacher and nephew of Ralf Schumacher, will drive for the Haas team in 2021.

From the Ferrari Driver Academy, Mick Schumacher climbed the ranks one by one to finally reach Formula 1. Having trained in the lower Formulas, he always took the time to adapt and perform. Throughout all these years, he has demonstrated that his rise was not only due to his last name but truly to his talent.

To recall, Mick began his career in karting under the name Mick Betsch, his mother’s name, to avoid media pressure. He made his single-seater debut in the ADAC Formula 4 championship in 2015 and secured a victory in his first season. He then moved on to the Italian Formula 4 championship, known as one of the most competitive single-seater championships. He finished 2nd, winning 5 races during the season.

In 2017, with the Italian team Prema, he participated in the Formula 3 championship but had difficulties adapting to the single-seater. It was only a temporary setback since the following year, he won the championship decisively with 14 podiums and 8 victories. He continued the journey with Prema by participating in the 2019 Formula 2 championship.

Current leader of the Formula 2 championship, the German is in a battle with another Ferrari Driver Academy driver, Callum Ilott. Although at one time his name was considered for Alfa Romeo, it is ultimately with another Ferrari partner team that the native of Vufflens-le-Château in Switzerland will make his entry into F1.

The Haas F1 Team will therefore field an unprecedented lineup with two rookies at the wheel, a first since the 2016-2017 season with the Manor team. The latter had even engaged 3 rookies within the span of a season, namely: Pascal Wehrlein, Rio Haryanto, and Esteban Ocon.
