Business Book GP has published the 2020 version of its annual report revealing the earnings of Formula 1 drivers. While Hamilton is undoubtedly the highest-paid driver on the list, Pierre Gasly is by far the most profitable with an average of about 15,000 euros per point earned.

Lewis Hamilton continues to extend his leadership in the world of Formula 1. This time, it is not on the sporting front but financially that the British driver stands out. With a salary of 47 million euros, Hamilton is, unsurprisingly, the highest-paid driver. His earnings are 35% higher than his competitor… Sebastian Vettel, who earns 35 million euros per year. It should be noted that these figures include only the contractual remuneration, excluding bonuses and sponsorship revenues.

Last in the standings, Antonio Giovinazzi costs the Alfa Romeo team 500,000 euros per year, a chasm separates him from his teammate Kimi Räikkönen, the 7th highest salary on the grid with 6 million euros per year.

In terms of salary performance ratio, the young drivers from the AlphaTauri, McLaren, and Racing Point teams are the most cost-effective, led by the Frenchman Pierre Gasly. With a haul of 68 points this season and a beautiful Italian victory at Monza, Gasly costs AlphaTauri 15,800 euros per point scored.

Apart from the Williams drivers, who have not yet scored a point this season, Haas has the most expensive driver pair in terms of performance achieved. Thus, Kevin Magnussen, with only one point, has cost the American team 2 million euros per point, compared to 1 million per point for Romain Grosjean.

For Hamilton, next year could bring him more. Being at the end of his contract with Mercedes, the renewal discussion will certainly include a salary increase given the driver’s outstanding performances and the equaled record of Michael Schumacher.
