This Friday’s free practice day in Istanbul was chaotic for the drivers due to the significant lack of grip on the track. This lack of grip is related to the complete resurfacing of the circuit a few dozen days ago.

Indeed, after 9 years of absence from the F1 calendar, Istanbul Park wanted to pull out all the stops by resurfacing the entire track. A good idea on paper, but no race took place on this brand new track before the first free practice session this morning. The result is a very slippery track, with many drivers making mistakes during the two free practice sessions.

Described as an ice rink, with free practice sessions resembling more a rally than Formula 1, the track was criticized by the drivers throughout the day.

We were able to see touring cars on the track this Friday evening to increase the grip of the circuit for the rest of the weekend.

Surreal moment during a Grand Prix weekend, the video was recorded by Lee Mathurin, a mechanic for the McLaren team, who then posted it on his Twitter account:

We see in this video 5 Renault Talisman on the pit straight.
