Access to the premier discipline of motorsport remains a path where performance matters from a young age. This is the experience that will be remembered from Giuliano Alesi’s time in the feeder series of Formula 1. As the son of a former Ferrari driver, the young driver’s two mediocre seasons proved fatal despite all the efforts and sacrifices made by his father, Jean Alesi.

The end of the Formula 2 season is a pivotal moment for all young drivers aspiring to seats in Formula 1, with names like Mick Schumacher and Callum Ilott already circulating in the paddock for seats in Ferrari-powered teams. For Alesi’s son, hopes are increasingly diminishing.

After a season bordering on catastrophic, marked by underperformance and technical problems, the Ferrari Young Driver Academy has decided not to retain the young French driver Giuliano Alesi.

This decision was heartbreaking for the former French driver and Ferrari driver Jean Alesi. The latter, in search of funds to raise for his son, did not hesitate to sell his Ferrari car, an F40, to finance the year 2020. For the 2021 season, an additional 80,000 euros was still needed.

If the search for sponsors is the lifeblood of motorsport, the choice of team is just as crucial. And it’s safe to say that choosing HWA was not the best decision for the young Alesi. “With HWA, we bet on the wrong team, we paid them 1 million euros… but promises were not kept,” explained Jean Alesi after Ferrari’s decision not to retain Giuliano.
