Mick Schumacher will drive for Alfa Romeo at the Nürburgring

It had been in the works for a few weeks, Mick Schumacher, son of the seven-time German world champion, will take part in the Free Practice 1 of the Nürburgring Grand Prix. Meanwhile, English driver Callum Ilott will also participate in Free Practice 1 at the wheel of a Haas.

We’ve already seen Mick Schumacher at the wheel of an F1 car, but always those of his father and for commemorative events. But we can now say that the German will make his grand debut in F1 with Alfa Romeo, a team partnered with the Ferrari Driver Academy.

Author of a notable F2 season and now 2 races away from the season’s end, Mick Schumacher glimpses the championship title. Victorious last weekend on the Sochi circuit during the feature race and third in the sprint race, he is now the leader with a 22-point advantage over his Ferrari Driver Academy teammate, Callum Ilott.

We will therefore see the famous name “Schumacher” on the timing boards, as he will be driving the Italian Antonio Giovinazzi’s single-seater in Free Practice 1. If the German wins the Formula 2 championship, there is a strong chance of seeing him permanently at the wheel of this Alfa Romeo driven by the Italian, who is also a driver from the Ferrari Driver Academy.

Mick Schumacher: « I am delighted to have this opportunity in free practice. The fact that my first participation in a Formula 1 weekend takes place in front of my home crowd at the Nürburgring makes this moment even more special. I want to thank Alfa-Romeo Racing ORLEN and the Ferrari Driver Academy for giving me the chance to get another taste of Formula 1, a year and a half after our joint test session in Bahrain. Over the next ten days, I will prepare well, so that I can do the best possible job for the team and obtain valuable data for the weekend. »
