A podium at 33,398 euros
The Monza podium will have made at least one person happy: a Finnish bettor collected 33,398 euros for placing Pierre Gasly, Carlos Sainz, and Lance Stroll in order!
Saying that the Monza Grand Prix was unpredictable is the understatement of the year! Well, almost. In fact, the Finnish betting site Veikkaus announced that one of its bettors actually placed a bet on this improbable podium for which the odds were 166,990.
Miikka Nurmi, Veikkaus’ product group manager, commented to the Iltalehti site: « Only one Veikkaus customer played the right line. The player from Tampere who played on Veikkaus.fi with a 20-cent bet won exactly 33,398 euros thanks to the wager. You don’t often see huge odds materialize. »
To find such a performance, you had to go back to 2017 and the famous Azerbaijan Grand Prix when Daniel Ricciardo won ahead of Valtteri Bottas and, already, Lance Stroll. At the time, the lucky winner collected 12,639 euros after a bet of 20 cents.
