The French people experienced one of the most beautiful moments in their sports history this Sunday with Pierre Gasly’s magnificent victory.

Taking advantage of the racing events and brilliantly resisting the comeback of the equally brilliant Carlos Sainz (McLaren), the Norman made the crowds cheer from home, in the absence of spectators sitting in the stands.

The small world of motorsport and F1 did not miss a beat and made sure to congratulate the 24-year-old driver appropriately.

Starting with Romain Grosjean. The Haas driver, who came close to victory several times during his Lotus period, was one of the first to congratulate his compatriot.

It has been 24 years since a French driver won, and on top of that, Pierre is a great guy! He had a difficult year last year and honestly, it’s amazing… Long live France! Who cares about my race, today it’s Pierre, Pierre, Pierre! I’m happy for him, he deserves it so much. he declared to the microphone of our colleagues from Canal +.

His lifelong friend, Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), who caused the major crash that led to the race’s red flag, personally congratulated him before the podium and then via this very nice tweet.

The six-time world champion Lewis Hamilton also has his say. Having secured pole position, the Briton was leading the race with ease before receiving a stop-and-go penalty for entering the pit lane while it was closed.

Moved up to 7th place, the Mercedes driver praised Gasly, despite his own disappointment.

« I really want to be grateful to Pierre for his incredible victory. It’s so well-deserved » he declared.

The winner of the 2019 Indy 500, the Frenchman Simon Pagenaud (whom Pierre replicated his famous Dragon move, by breaking Sainz’s slipstream in the final lap) made a point to congratulate and thank his compatriot for this first Marseillaise in 24 years!

Finally, the Canal+ commentator, Julien Fébreau, who also thrilled the French audience (especially in the last lap of this race), certainly found, through this understated tweet, the most beautiful words to summarize our shared passion for F1 and applaud Gasly’s performance.

Once again… Hats off Mr. Pierre Gasly!!
