Known for his passion for cars and motorcycles, Vettel has just made a significant acquisition; he is now the owner of one of Formula 1’s historic single-seaters. The four-time world champion has bought Nigel Mansell’s Williams FW14B, a car that enabled Mansell to win the Drivers’ World Championship in 1992.

The single-seater is a technological gem and was avant-garde at the time with its active suspension system, an advanced traction control system, and semi-automatic gearbox. Driving the Williams FW14B, Nigel Mansell managed to secure pole position in 15 out of 16 Grand Prix in the 1992 world championship. 10 of his pole positions were subsequently converted into victories.

This new acquisition is good news for Sebastian Vettel, who is currently struggling with the SF1000 Ferrari and whose future in Formula 1 is more than uncertain. The German driver is delighted with this purchase, especially since it carries the same number as his, namely number 5. “The Red 5 – nickname of the FW14B – interested me, the car is iconic, and on top of that, it carries number 5 just like me…” said the Ferrari driver.

For the moment, the price of this transaction has not been disclosed, but a previous auction resulted in the sale of a similar item for 3 million euros.
