Spanish Grand Prix: The Top 3 Statement
After a rather calm race, here are the immediate reactions from the top 3.

Lewis Hamilton: 1st
The British driver managed this Grand Prix masterfully by finishing first. 88th victory for Hamilton, who gets closer to Michael Schumacher’s record and has now beaten the German’s podium record. Upon exiting his car, he made sure to congratulate, through Martin Brundle’s microphone, his team for « this fantastic effort ». He explains having managed his tires and strategy throughout the race: « I managed to make the tires last longer than expected. In my mind, I was nearly set on a one-stop strategy. In the end, we didn’t need to take the risk of doing just one stop, and I had the medium tires that worked well ».
Max Verstappen: 2nd
Great start by the Red Bull driver who is pleased with his start and tire management throughout the race: « It’s very good to have been able to split the two Mercedes today. We didn’t have Lewis’s pace, so it’s a good thing to finish second. The start was crucial, being able to pass Valtteri was very important. I then managed my pace, was satisfied with the tires, and had no problems. »
Valtteri Bottas: 3rd
After a failed start, he lost 2 positions and found himself between the two Racing Points under the threat of Perez. He explains not understanding what happened [at the start]. We need to look into it, I really didn’t have a slipstream unlike Max. A few laps later, he managed to overtake Stroll’s Racing Point and found himself in 3rd position having used up his tire resources: During my first stint, I tried to attack but I really damaged my tires. I suffered behind Max because it’s difficult to overtake on this track. He will spend most of the race in this position. This podium is the 50th for the Finnish driver in Formula 1 but he still picks up the point for the fastest lap.
