Following an initial test deemed inconclusive, Sergio Pérez was eventually tested positive for the coronavirus. His seat was therefore coveted by several drivers like Stoffel Vandoorne or Esteban Gutiérrez, both Mercedes reserve drivers. But in the end, it’s a surprise guest who returns to service… Nico Hülkenberg! The German driver, ousted by Renault at the end of 2019, will return to competition at the wheel of a very competitive Racing Point.

Nico Hülkenberg will be eager to end a sad record, that of the driver who has participated in the most F1 Grand Prix without ever having set foot on the podium (177 Grand Prix!). One thing is for sure, this weekend he will have a car capable of achieving a good result!

For his part, Sergio Pérez wanted to thank his supporters. According to him, he currently has no severe symptoms of Covid-19. The Mexican driver will, of course, remain in quarantine, at least for the next week. It therefore seems unlikely that he will race at Silverstone next weekend for the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix. In the medium term, the question arises whether he will be able to leave the UK for Spain, and whether he will have the possibility to participate in the Spanish Grand Prix scheduled for the weekend of August 16.
