It was during the first free practice session of the Styrian Grand Prix that Ferrari confirmed that the Mugello circuit will indeed be on the 2020 Formula 1 calendar. This information was quickly confirmed by the FOM. A little later in the same session, the Russian Grand Prix also confirmed its presence this year. There are now 10 races on the calendar with possibly more to be added over time.

The Mugello circuit was visited before the start of this strange season by Ferrari with the 2018 car to allow their drivers to get back behind the wheel after several months of inactivity. It is also at Mugello that Ferrari, which owns the track, will celebrate its 1000th Grand Prix. Two circuits in Italy that follow each other very closely, as Monza takes place on September 6th and Mugello will be just one week later on September 13th.

Two weeks later, the Russian Grand Prix will take place, having managed to retain its initial date. It will still be held in the Olympic Park on the Sochi circuit. A few weeks ago, rumors spoke of 2 consecutive Grand Prix in Russia, but this is now unlikely with this announcement.

F1 still hopes to have a 16-race calendar; now we’ll see which 6 circuits will fill the shortest calendar of the hybrid era.
