The Racing Point (formerly Mercedes Pink), the other star of the Austrian GP
The 2019 season started with a few surprises, Sergio Pérez managed to set the third fastest time in the second free practice session just behind the Mercedes. A performance that astonished more than one.

Before the start of the 2020 season, some voices were raised to denounce the strong similarity between the 2020 Racing Point car and the 2019 Mercedes.
Free practice sessions 1 and 2 of the Austrian GP confirmed the impressive progress of the Racing Point team. Sergio Pérez managed to shake up the top three by achieving the third-best time of 1:04.945 during the second practice session, ahead of Red Bull and Ferrari.
Despite these encouraging results, Sergio Pérez refuses to draw conclusions, preferring to remain focused on improving the car’s setup, especially given the very tight gap between the midfield teams.
This performance on Friday did not go unnoticed. The Renault team, one of Racing Point’s direct competitors during the 2019 season, had suspected during winter testing that Racing Point had copied the 2019 Silver Arrow with Mercedes’ complicity. For McLaren as well, the Pink car has attackable irregularities. However, the teams wish to remain focused this weekend on their respective performances for this return to competition before thinking about Racing Point.
This achievement by Racing Point is further proof of Mercedes’ hegemony, as they managed to position themselves ahead of the top teams Red Bull and Ferrari with a 2019 edition single-seater. To be continued.
