Beyond the final race of the F1 championship, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix also hosted a major auction organized by RM Sotheby’s. As mentioned in our previous article, many legends of motorsport were highlighted in this auction.

One of the stars of the sale was undoubtedly the Ferrari F2002 that won the 2002 F1 World Championship in the hands of Michael Schumacher. Victorious that same year in Austria, France, and San Marino, it helped the German champion secure his 5th world title.

Estimated by the auction house between $5 and $7.5 million, the single-seater equipped with the V10 ultimately kept its promise by being sold at the high end of the estimate, for $6,653,750.

If the seller will undoubtedly have been able to replenish his funds, he will nevertheless have to bear the cost of restoring the V10 engine and its transmission. Ferrari will take care of rebuilding everything according to their specifications and will bill the previous owner, likely with a hefty charge.

Beyond this record sale, certain models also achieved significant success in sales, notably the Benetton B192 driven by Michael Schumacher during the 1992 season and sold for $725,000.

Unexpectedly, another Italian car received overwhelming support. Initially estimated between 4.5 and 5.5 million dollars, the 2017 Pagani Zonda Aether was ultimately sold for the modest sum of 6.05 million dollars, thus exceeding the highest initial estimates set by the English house.

The success of this auction once again confirms the interest of collectors and speculators in the world of collectible automobiles.
