Budapest: Latest Weather Information and Pre-Qualification Trends

The previous day's forecasts predicted rain for the middle of the day. That hasn't happened, and it sets the trends for this afternoon's qualifying. Free practice 3 will be crucial for trying to make the final tweaks to the cars on this atypical circuit.

The news of the day is that the rain announced since Thursday, with a 50% chance of showers during the qualifications, is not expected to appear at the Hungaroring this Saturday.

Nevertheless, with a cloudy sky and a heavy atmosphere, the risk of a localized storm cloud remains possible.

At 11:30 AM, the temperatures are 24°C in the air and 40°C on the track.

These conditions are roughly equivalent to those of FP1 and the beginning of FP2.

Emerging trends for the rest of the weekend:

Ferrari falling behind?

In retreat during the first two practice sessions, Charles Leclerc confided to us that the Ferraris were clearly lacking downforce on this winding circuit.

The performances are not up to par for race cars that are in constant search of grip. The engineers have work to do to try to counterbalance the trend as much as possible and hope to join the leaders in the race against the clock.

Are Red Bull the favorites?

Equipped with their excellent chassis, the Red Bulls are clearly at ease on the Hungarian circuit. The free practice sessions have further confirmed their good form on the Hungaroring. Max Verstappen is brimming with confidence after his superb past races, and Pierre Gasly will undoubtedly seek opportunities on a track he particularly enjoys.

Mercedes Back in Force?

After the German debacle, the Silver Arrows are determined to make a comeback. Although Valtteri Bottas had an engine issue, everything seems resolved to ensure performance for the rest of the weekend. With a formidable chassis, the Mercedes will likely be in the fight for the top 3 against the Red Bulls.

And behind?

The fight for the top 10 is likely to be tough. With a track that minimizes the impact of engine performances due to the many technical sections, everyone has a chance to make their mark.

The Renaults seem comfortable on the Hungarian track, with notably two top 8 finishes for Hülkenberg during the two practice sessions and a fine 5th place in FP2 for Ricciardo.

With rising temperatures, we will also have to rely on Romain Grosjean’s Haas, which, according to him, is comfortable in high temperatures.

The McLarens will probably also perform well at the Hungaroring with Carlos Sainz being very consistent since the start of the season and Lando Norris capable of delivering outstanding performances.

Trends to follow and check after FP3 from noon. Find the session summary once completed on Motorsinside.
