Gasly: “I know it’s going to pay off..”

Confirmed for the rest of the season by Helmut Marko, this doesn't appear to provide any relief to Pierre Gasly, who did not doubt the support of his hierarchy. The Norman observes progress and is confident for the future, starting this weekend in Budapest.

After various rumors, Helmut Marko confirmed a few days ago that Pierre Gasly would indeed remain with the parent company Red Bull for the rest of the season.

If this somewhat reassures French fans, the announcement seems irrelevant for the Norman: « It was agreed like this since the beginning of the season. There are a lot of speculations, a lot of things that are said, but I don’t necessarily pay attention to them, I focus on myself and on all the work that needs to be done with the team and the engineers. »

Outclassed since the beginning of the season by Max Verstappen both in races and qualifying, the Frenchman remains optimistic and knows that the work will pay off: « It’s true that at the moment things aren’t going as well as we’d like. After all, everyone is aware of the work that needs to be done. I’m happy with the improvements, there have been good progress that may not necessarily show in the final results, but I know it will pay off. »

On the Hungaroring circuit, praised by the Red Bull driver and seemingly tailor-made for the Austrian single-seaters, the former Toro Rosso driver expresses his expectations: “I would like to confirm in the qualifications after the 5th place at Silverstone and the 4th at Hockenheim. We need to continue in this direction and see the performance we have here,” the Frenchman declares. “We are going to aim for big points, a top 5, or a podium if we have the performance. The Hungarian track should suit us, given the progress made in recent weeks, we should be present on Sunday. And yes, I do love this circuit.”

After his impressive 6th place in both qualifying and the race last year driving the Toro Rosso, Pierre Gasly can undoubtedly deliver a strong performance this weekend at the wheel of his Red Bull. The setup will be crucial, as will adapting to race conditions.
