Schumacher, in the Name of the Father
Mick Schumacher experienced a weekend full of intense emotions as he took the wheel of his father's F2004 for demonstration laps.

Last year, at Spa-Francorchamps, Mick Schumacher had already taken the wheel of an iconic car from his father’s career, the Benetton with which he won his first title in 1994.
Now a full member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, he has now taken the wheel of another historically significant single-seater, the F2004, which saw him break all records in a season: « I was able to see how much progress there was between 1994 and 2004. Being able to drive flat out with the V10 is a very special moment. » Under his helmet, which incorporated both his traditional colors and those of his father, he smiled throughout his short demonstration. For his second outing on Sunday, he even had the opportunity to drive on a track dampened by a shower, which resulted in a few controlled slides.
The young driver also took the opportunity to comment on his first season in F2, which he joined after winning the F3 title last season. One of the main differences is the pace of the race weekends, with only a short free practice session before being thrown into deep water: The results of race 1 impact race 2. So if you have a bad race in race 1, you’ll have a bad weekend, whereas in F3, qualifying always determined where you would start in the race.
Currently 14th in the championship, he hopes to finish the season on a positive note and, above all, to be able to show the true potential of his team and himself. If he is heading into a second season to establish himself as a legitimate F1 candidate, the paddock obviously already has an eye on him. That’s why Sebastian Vettel made a point of stating that it’s necessary to give him time to develop and not add unnecessary pressure: « I think it’s essential that he is given the necessary time. I think it’s fair that he is judged, as we all have been, but it’s not fair that he is too compared to others and especially his father. It’s a different era. »
