Otmar Szafnauer is leaving Aston Martin
The first transfer of the season is already underway. Otmar Szafnauer is leaving Aston Martin. But where is he going?

For the past few months, rumors were indicating that Otmar Szafnauer was on the verge of leaving Aston Martin. As usual, the American had been very vague about his future.
It is now official, Otmar Szafnauer is leaving Aston Martin! It marks the end of a 12-year-long journey for the American entrepreneur, who had joined the Silverstone-based team when it was still known as Force India.
While since its creation, the team based in England had always managed to progress positively in the pack, 2021 marked the end of this progression. Indeed, in 2020, Racing Point had finished the season in 4th place, while in 2021 Lawrence Stroll saw his team finish in a distant 7th position.
It is probably necessary to look two positions higher to find where Otmar Szafnauer will find his landing point. If Aston Martin regressed in 2021, Alpine on the other hand had a solid season with many highlights, such as Esteban Ocon’s victory in Hungary or Alonso’s podium finish in Qatar.
Sfaznauer would thus come to replace Davide Brivio, the competition director, who has been almost invisible in 2021 alongside CEO Laurent Rossi, executive director Marcin Budkowski, and non-executive director Alain Prost, who have taken all the spotlight. The American would be part of Laurent Rossi’s reorganization plan, aimed at restructuring the team to enable them to compete with the Formula 1 powerhouses in 2022, after spending the past 6 seasons in the midfield.
