Duel between F1 and MotoGP at Silverstone, overwhelming victory
The MotoGP and Formula 1 sometimes race on the same tracks. Silverstone is on the calendar for both motor sports.

The F1 is on vacation, but that’s not the case for all motorsports. The MotoGP has just resumed on a legendary Formula 1 circuit, Silverstone. An opportunity for some F1 drivers to visit the circuit during the MotoGP Grand Prix.
In the United Kingdom, MotoGP had fewer spectators than Formula 1. Fabio Quartararo and his competitors received the support of 115,000 people in the stands throughout the weekend. Far from the 480,000 English fans who flocked to see the podium of the two Britons Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton during the 2023 edition.
Formula 1, much faster than MotoGP at Silverstone
Single-seaters are much faster than MotoGP two-wheelers. During the British Formula 1 Grand Prix, it was Max Verstappen who set the fastest lap in the race with a time of 1:30.275. A time much faster than the best race lap achieved by Francesco Bagnaia in 2:01.825. Between the two time laps, there is a difference of 31.450 seconds.
This time difference can be explained by the track conditions. On Sunday, during the MotoGP race, the Silverstone officials declared the track to be wet. In similar conditions last season, Johann Zarco secured pole position in 1:57.346, whereas in Formula 1, the fastest lap in qualifying was set by Max Verstappen in 1:26.720 in changing conditions. Formula 1 is also 31.470 seconds faster in qualifying.
In addition to the lap time, the average speed is also much higher for Formula 1 cars. Max Verstappen completed the 50 laps of the Silverstone circuit with an average speed of 234.922 km/h. Once again, F1 cars are much faster than Moto GP riders who average 174 km/h.
These lap times are in favor of the F1 cars, as the single-seaters can enter the corners with higher speed thanks to the downforce that the cars can generate compared to motorcycles.
F1 runs longer than Moto GP
The Moto GP fought for 20 laps to see Aleix Espargaró’s victory on British soil. The Spaniard prevailed ahead of Francesco Bagnaia and Brad Binder.
During the F1 race in the United Kingdom, the 20 single-seater drivers raced for 50 laps at Silverstone on a former Royal Air Force airbase.
Despite a 10-lap sprint race on Saturday for the motorcycle riders, they still completed 20 laps less than the Formula 1 cars in a single race.
No more suspense in Moto GP
The Moto GP had a thrilling race from start to finish. It wasn’t until the final lap that we knew the winner of the race. The top four finishers at the Silverstone Moto GP all crossed the finish line within one second of Aleix Espargaro, the winner of the race.
Formula 1 doesn’t have as much suspense. Max Verstappen’s Red Bull was definitely too strong in the United Kingdom. The double world champion finished with almost 4 seconds ahead of his runner-up Lando Norris and over 6 seconds ahead of Lewis Hamilton, who completed the podium.
