While Max Verstappen won nine Grand Prix to secure a fourth consecutive world title, Red Bull finished third in the Constructors’ Championship, behind McLaren and Ferrari. Despite a dominant start to the season, marked by seven victories from Verstappen in the first 10 races, Red Bull faced performance and consistency difficulties with the RB20 throughout the year. An inconsistent car balance was one of the main issues raised by the Dutchman.

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko indicated that the team is working to ensure the 2025 RB21 has a wider operating window.

Rather than focusing solely on adding aerodynamic support to gain performance, the emphasis is on improving the car’s balance. We know what we need to do, wrote Helmut Marko in his regular column for Speedweek.

« This car needs a wider operating window so that it does not immediately lose its balance with slight temperature variations or minor technical modifications. This is exactly what our engineers are working on. Forty points of support, that’s fine, but what interests me, as well as the drivers, is four-tenths on the stopwatch. »

« The behavior must be predictable for the driver so that he can develop the necessary confidence », he explains.

Red Bull anticipates a closer fight in 2025.

After failing to defend their constructors’ title in 2024, Red Bull expects an even closer battle with their rivals next year. McLaren narrowly won the constructors’ championship against Ferrari last season, while Mercedes showed encouraging signs of competitiveness, securing several victories.

« I am certain that we will witness a close fight at the front next year, which is normal for the last year of a regulatory period. The field will be more compact », added Helmut Marko.

« It is common in Formula 1 to copy concepts that have proven themselves. The more the specifications remain stable, the more the cars resemble each other. This automatically increases the level of performance. »

« We will give everything again next year. There will be some changes in the team, as some people have left us. But we are well positioned, and I believe our team is capable of providing Max with a car that will allow him to fight for the world championship again », he concluded.
