Austin, yet another failure for Charles Leclerc despite starting from the pole position

A massive flop: starting from a convincing pole position, Charles Leclerc went from hero to zero, Sunday, in Austin. Not only did he tumble to 6th place, but he was also disqualified.

The gods of F1 have granted a moment of happiness to the competition against Red Bull and Max Verstappen, in Singapore: especially Ferrari, as Carlos Sainz has been the providential man of the Scuderia this year with his victory.

In Austin, Charles Leclerc had signed a very promising pole position: and what if, finally, he managed to convert this pole into a sixth F1 victory? Missed.

Lando Norris quickly stole the spotlight from him at the first turn and the downfall began. Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen and even Carlos Sainz surpassed him. Suffice to say that at Ferrari, everything was done backwards and the first one concerned does not deny it.

« To be honest, it was not only hard, but we were exactly on the strategy not to deploy » he grumbled after arrival.

Disqualification as a penalty

Ferrari chose a rather curious strategy: a single stop, transitioning from mediums at the start to hard tires to finish the race. Even Carlos Sainz, who ended up on the podium, benefited from a better strategy! One has to wonder what the plan is at the reds.

For Leclerc, it was simply impossible to keep up with the pace of his opponents, who stopped twice.

As if that was not enough, the Monegasque also had to undergo a disqualification, due to a non-compliant single-seater.

Having 21 poles in F1 is good. But having only converted five into victory is a very meager record. Especially when Ferrari’s strategists get involved…
