In an interview with TalkSport, Felipe Massa gives his opinion on Lewis Hamilton's departure to join Ferrari.

Considered to be the transfer of the century, Lewis Hamilton’s departure from Mercedes to join Ferrari continues to make waves. After a few challenging seasons in an uncompetitive car, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion hopes for better days in 2025 by teaming up with Charles Leclerc in the Italian team.
Felipe Massa, former Formula 1 driver who is waiting for a verdict on his missed 2008 title against Lewis Hamilton while he was at Ferrari, revisits this transfer. The one who competed against the Briton from 2007 to 2017 is eager to see him start and thinks that his new teammate, Charles Leclerc, could go through a difficult period.
« For next year, there will be a big change at Ferrari with Lewis’ decision to leave Mercedes », Massa said on TalkSPORT. « I hope he will have a competitive car because Ferrari did not have the right car to compete with Red Bull ».
During his 15-year career, Felipe Massa drove for Sauber, Ferrari, and Williams. He notably finished second in the championship in 2008 when Hamilton won his first title for McLaren. Massa is still taking legal action against the FIA, F1, and Bernie Ecclestone regarding the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix and the controversial incident of the crashgate.
But he is still eager to see Hamilton exchange Mercedes for Ferrari in 2025. « I think it’s really nice, it’s really interesting. Even for marketing. Everyone is talking about it. »
« It will certainly be nice to see Lewis in the red suit in the red car. I think the fans are going crazy about it. »
« I hope he will be able to have a competitive car because Ferrari did not have the right car to fight Red Bull. Let’s see if they will succeed. And let’s also see how it will go with Lewis behind the wheel of Ferrari, it will be interesting to see him with Charles. »
Hamilton is now in his third season of valiant struggle against an underperforming Mercedes. At 39, he is younger than Fernando Alonso on the current grid.
In search of an record eighth championship next year, he has made a major appeal to activate a safeguard clause in his Mercedes contract and will be heading to Ferrari.
« But I am happy, it will be good for Formula 1, it will be good for sports too, declares Massa.
