Andrea Stella satisfied with his team’s results
Andrea Stella believes that McLaren can catch up with the championship leader, Red Bull, if they manage to reproduce last year's development trajectory over the next 12 months.

McLaren is having a good start to the championship compared to the 2023 season, scoring only 14 points in the first five rounds. Major revisions to last year’s MCL60 chassis, during the Austrian Grand Prix weekend, had allowed the team to compete for poles and podiums.
McLaren has strengthened its position in the top half of the field this year and has scored 96 points, which is 82 more than last year at this stage of the season. Andrea Stella explained that the focus is on maintaining this development pace and, if it is sustained, he believes that the Woking team can mount a realistic challenge against Red Bull for honors in 2025.
« I think overall, if we take the 12-month period, we have developed more than anyone else. I think Red Bull didn’t develop much last year. Obviously, they were working a lot behind the scenes because they innovated on the car in a spectacular way, explained the team director.
« That’s why I think we need to take a long-term view. We are on a strong trajectory. For me, that’s also what we are saying internally: if we maintain this development approach for the next 12 months, then why not? We could reach Red Bull.
Developments in Miami
McLaren will introduce evolutions during the Miami Grand Prix this weekend, although Stella admits that they will not be as extensive as some of the packages introduced last season. However, he believes that these will represent a decent step according to the team’s current simulation.
« We will have some developments in Miami, let’s see how they behave. Then, like everyone else, there are many people at the factory who are all focused on generating developments and it’s always a development fight. »
« It is an enormous task in Formula 1 to constantly improve the cars. This is what we have to do. These updates will not be as significant as the two we delivered last year in Austria and Singapore. But it should be a decent step, it should be noticeable.
