Silverstone resurrects its historic bends with a brand new karting circuit

The legendary British track continues its metamorphosis with the imminent opening of a world-class karting complex, built on the ruins of a glorious past. Bridge and Priory, two emblematic corners forgotten since 2010, are back to life.

A tribute to the history of the circuit. Silverstone, the cradle of British motorsport, continues to reinvent its legacy. This week, the circuit unveiled the first images of its brand-new karting track: a 1.377 km layout, located in close proximity to the Wellington straight. But beyond the modern infrastructure, it is the history that resurfaces.

Indeed, the layout includes two legendary corners from the old Formula 1 circuit: Bridge and Priory, which were abandoned after the 2010 redesign. They were created during the major transformation of 1991 and witnessed some of the most intense moments of the championship, notably the collision between Michael Schumacher and Damon Hill in 1996. Since then, these sections had fallen into disuse. Until today.

A circuit designed by the drivers, for the drivers.

The project is far from being a mere nostalgic tribute. This new complex has been designed to host international karting competitions, under the aegis of the FIA. It offers six different configurations, providing great versatility for young drivers and professional events.

Two former F1 drivers, David Coulthard and Anthony Davidson, contributed their expertise to the track design. This involvement was praised by current Mercedes driver, George Russell, who recently visited the site.

« It’s incredibly impressive. I am certain that this circuit will become one of the best in the world. It embodies everything that British motorsport can offer at its best », said Russell, double European KF3 champion in karting.

A new ambition for Silverstone

Beyond karting, this project is part of a broader strategy led by Managing Director Stuart Pringle: to transform Silverstone into a year-round leisure and motorsport destination.

« This is a turning point in the development of the circuit. Silverstone is no longer limited to its annual Grand Prix. We want to be a platform for training, passion, and excellence for all generations of drivers. »

With this new karting, Silverstone adds another building block to its ambition: to become a place where the glorious past meets the future of motorsport, on the same starting line.
