Max Verstappen makes history by breaking the record for most wins in a season
By winning the Mexican Grand Prix, Max Verstappen broke the record for most victories in a single Formula 1 season, with his 14 triumphs this year.

Double world champion Max Verstappen further etched his name in Formula 1 history this Sunday by winning the Mexican Grand Prix and securing his 14th victory of the year. The Dutchman has thus broken the record for most wins in a single season, surpassing Michael Schumacher’s 13 victories in 2004, as well as Sebastian Vettel’s tally in 2013. However, it should be noted that both Germans achieved these feats in fewer races than in 2022.
In Austin last weekend, Max Verstappen set another record by becoming the first driver to win nine races in a single season without starting from pole position. The Dutchman surpasses Lewis Hamilton in this statistic, who achieved eight victories in 2019 starting from further back than first place.
The Dutchman is already fifth, tied with Fernando Alonso, in the ranking of victories in all Formula 1 seasons combined. He has won 33 races, the same number as the Spaniard, and is behind Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, Sebastian Vettel, Michael Schumacher, and Lewis Hamilton, who holds the absolute record with 103 wins.
