Eifel Grand Prix: The Nürburgring in Numbers

Formula 1 hadn't visited the Nürburgring since 2013. An opportunity to look back at the key figures of this legendary track.

1’14’960: This is the time that allowed Juan-Pablo Montoya in 2002 to clinch the pole position with Williams. It’s the fastest lap ever recorded on the Nürburgring! A lap that is difficult to beat even for current F1 cars with the addition of the Mercedes Arena, which extends the lap by 14 seconds!

**4:** the number of current drivers who have already stood on the podium at the Nürburgring. Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Räikkönen have both climbed onto the podium twice, just once for Lewis Hamilton and Romain Grosjean. This weekend, the German and the Finn will very likely be joined by the Brit.

5: With 5 victories, Michael Schumacher is the most successful driver at the Nürburgring. Winner in 1995, 2000, 2001, 2004, and 2006, the German is the king on his home turf and is likely to remain so for some time, given the frequency with which F1 races on this legendary track.

14: Ferrari is by far the most successful team on the circuit located in Rhineland-Palatinate. McLaren is its closest rival with only 5 wins. Unfortunately, the poor form of the SF1000 does not, on paper, make it likely for the Italian team to win the race this weekend.

**27:** On the calendar since 1951, the Nürburgring has seen the best drivers of each generation compete. Over the 40 times F1 has come to this circuit, 27 different drivers have claimed victory. Among them: Jim Clark, Mark Webber, James Hunt, and Alain Prost.

2013: It was the last year the Nürburgring was seen in the top category of motorsport and the final season before the hybrid era. That race was won by Sebastian Vettel ahead of Kimi Räikkönen and Romain Grosjean, both with Lotus. A normal podium in 2013 that would now be very surprising considering the cars the three drivers currently have!

For the record, the race will start at 2:10 PM this Sunday. Detailed timings for each session can be found here.
