After six years of collaboration within a simple client-supplier relationship, Sauber and Mitsubishi Electric have decided to take a step further by appointing the Japanese company as the team’s technical partner, which will allow it to increase its visibility.

The collaboration between the two companies began with the supply of stamping and wire-cutting machines before also including robots for cutting carbon elements, which are crucial on modern Formula 1 cars.

His new role within the team will allow the subsidiary of the Japanese giant to appear on press releases, transport trucks, and screens in the stands. However, it does not foresee an appearance on the cars of Kamui Kobayashi and Sergio Perez, indicating that the financial contribution is not so significant.

But this will not prevent him from strengthening his involvement in the team, as explained by Hans-Jürgen Pelzers, the head of sales for Mechatronics EDM/Laser: «In addition to providing the team with cutting machines, we will use advanced engineering to expand our production of industrial robots and thus be ready for the future. Mitsubishi Electric is a leading company in all technical fields, and this fully aligns with our commitment to Formula 1. The fact that Kamui Kobayashi is engaged as a Japanese driver is also an additional motivation.»
