Official: 20-Second Penalties for Hamilton and Alonso
The Briton relinquishes his 7th place on paper.
Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso were each given a 20-second penalty by the stewards after the race.
The McLaren driver was penalized for changing lines more than once while Fernando Alonso was attempting to overtake him on the straight. The Briton therefore loses a place to Kamui Kobayashi, who finished the race 18 seconds behind the 2008 world champion.
The Spaniard, for his part, was penalized for his collision with Lewis Hamilton, thus ruining his podium chances as well as those of the Briton. The Ferrari driver also lost 20 seconds but did not lose any positions, as Kamui Kobayashi finished the race more than 20 seconds behind the double world champion.
The teams cannot appeal this decision, the rankings will be updated accordingly.
