Saturday: Team Lotus closes in on the pack

Just like in Malaysia, both Team Lotus drivers are satisfied with the performance of the T128. Kovalainen and Trulli believe they gave their maximum and that it was not possible to do better. The Italian hopes to have a good race tomorrow. The only one not entirely happy with today's results is the technical director, Mike Gascoyne, who regrets the cooler temperatures that suit the T128 less.

Heikki Kovalainen – 19th:

From my point of view, I am very happy. I only made one attempt which put a bit of pressure on me, but I finally managed a good lap below 1:38. After this morning’s practice, we knew we would have a challenging qualifying session because the track temperature was a bit lower than yesterday, and that affects our car.

« We are not aggressive with the tires and when the temperatures drop we have to work hard to keep them at the optimal temperature. In race conditions, we are definitely stronger and you can see that we continue to get closer to the middle of the grid. »

Jarno Trulli – 20th:

I’m really happy from a driving perspective because I pushed hard today and as I said on the radio, I think I got the maximum out of the car today. I continue to work to find the right balance, but little by little we are making progress, so I think we did a good job. After a good weekend from a reliability standpoint, we need to have a good race tomorrow.

Mike Gascoyne – Technical Director:

A disappointing day in terms of performance. In colder conditions, we struggle more with the tires than last week and yesterday, and we are far from the level we hoped for. However, we have seen that in these conditions our race pace is better and we are considerably more competitive, so I think we can have a mid-field race.
