Saturday: D’Ambrosio outpaces Glock at Virgin

The Virgin team avoided the embarrassment of being outpaced by HRT drivers in qualifying. For the first time this season, Jérôme d'Ambrosio is ahead of his teammate in this particular exercise. The German struggled with his tires but hopes it will be better in the race tomorrow.

Timo Glock – 22nd:

Overall, a better day than yesterday because we were able to complete our program, but we didn’t achieve the best result in qualifying which is disappointing. I had some overheating issues in my first stint and the tires didn’t really work in the second.

I think the changes we made between FP3 and qualifying were not for the better. I believe we were a little too conservative, but who knows? It might help us in the race. We’ll look at the data and see what it tells us, then we’ll work on a good strategy for tomorrow and try to see the checkered flag.

Jérôme d’Ambrosio – 21st:

I am very happy. What I take away from today is that I continue to improve and also that I still have a lot to learn, I am headed in the right direction. That is the most important thing for me.

It’s still early and I have a lot to do, but the way I work and therefore the whole team works is good and the results show that the path we are on is the right one. It was a good Saturday.

John Booth – team principal

«We have recovered well from a difficult start to the weekend and are closer to where we hoped to be. Timo struggled with the tires, and there is more to come. We hope the setup will be good in the race tomorrow.

Jérôme did an exceptional job and everything is going well for him. After a difficult practice session this morning, he put everything together when it counted, and he is improving with every race.

«Generally speaking, there is a positive outlook for the race where we hope to make the most of our good reliability by bringing both cars to the finish line.
