Sunday: Toro Rosso back in the points

Scuderia Toro Rosso showed two different faces in Monaco. Dropped in qualifying, the men from Faenza raised their heads during the race. While Sebastian Buemi brought a new point to his team's tally, Jaime Alguersuari finished his race on foot after a collision that caused the red flag.

Sebastien Buemi – 10th

« I started 16th and finished 10th after a very difficult Grand Prix because I have to admit that I wasn’t very sure where we stood in terms of strategies and tires, with the situation made more complicated by the safety car and the red flag.

I think we can be happy with our race pace as my lap times were good. It’s nice to leave the toughest race of the year with a point, especially considering that our qualifying didn’t go well. Now, I’m looking towards Canada where I had a good race last year, finishing 8th.

Jaime Alguersuari – Abandonment

It seemed like I was in traffic all the time, which is normal here, so I was unable to get the most out of the tires’ potential. It was very difficult, even impossible to overtake, so I couldn’t do much more after starting from so far back on the grid.

Regarding the accident, towards the end, I was overtaking Heidfeld at that moment. I think Sutil had a problem with his right rear tire and Lewis braked very hard in front of me, and although I braked as hard as possible, it was too late, I couldn’t stop and I hit him. It is obviously disappointing but our race pace is encouraging so I hope we can make the most of it in Montreal in two weeks.

Franz Tost

« Another exciting race with action from start to finish, including during the restart [after the red flag].

From Toro Rosso’s point of view, the whole team did a good job as we leave with one point, which is more than we could have hoped for after a rather disappointing qualifying session.

Sebastien Buemi did a very good job without making the slightest mistake, which is not easy in Monaco.

Jaime Alguersuari was unfortunately involved in a collision that triggered the deployment of the safety car and the red flag. He had nowhere to go and couldn’t avoid it.

Now, we need to find out why our qualifying performance wasn’t good enough while our race pace is better. For the next two races, we will have the soft and super soft tires, which suggests that Montreal and Valencia should offer us exciting races.
