Sunday: Jackpot for Red Bull!
Sebastian Vettel claimed his first victory on the streets of Monaco and his fifth this season. Despite lacking wings, his Red Bull had tires that allowed him to withstand the combined assaults of Alonso and Button. Mark Webber, on the other hand, had a quieter race but leaves the principality with 4th place.

Sebastian Vettel – 1st
« It’s difficult to describe, it’s an amazing feeling. I saw what it takes to win here. Today, it was a crazy race. It’s hard to imagine that you can make only one stop in this race, but that’s more or less what we did. Our first stop wasn’t very good, and we lost a place to Jenson. I was surprised when Jenson came in, and we had to react: he was flying on soft tires while I was on hard ones. I thought, “Don’t give up!” and I kept pushing to close the gap.
The safety car helped us, but it was no small feat to complete 60 laps on the same set of tires, our calculations didn’t allow it. We took a lot of risks, but that makes today’s victory even sweeter.
Towards the end of the race, the tires I had were far from fresh, but I saw that the only way to win the race was to stay out. I spent twenty laps under pressure from Fernando and Jenson, the last six laps would have been tough, but there was another safety car and a race stoppage, so we were able to change tires.
I am extremely happy. At one point, I was second with 15 seconds behind Jenson, so the victory seemed out of reach, but it’s a crazy place here. I think the wheel [of luck] kept spinning during the race.
I am very, very happy. It’s a fantastic result and an immense honor to have my name on the list of winners in Monaco. We completely deserve this victory, we took risks and have been rewarded for it.
Mark Webber – 4th
« We didn’t go far enough on the first stint, which is normal for me with these tires, and it penalized me. When I arrived at the pits, there were no tires out, I arrived and waited for the guys to finish getting ready. There was a radio communication problem with the team, so they weren’t ready yet. When you get stuck in the pits, you lose positions on the track, so it’s not so bad to finish 4th.
I don’t know why we resumed the race with only five laps remaining, but that was the decision and it went well.
I hope Vitaly is doing well.
Cyril Dumont – Renault
« Once again, it’s a good result for Sebastian and there are worse ways to start the season: five wins out of six possible! I don’t know how far back you have to go to find such results [ed. note: 2009].
Regarding Mark, it was a bit chaotic during his first stop, but he caught up well and it’s great to see him finish 4th. It’s difficult to overtake on this track, but he did it.
From a general point of view, we achieved a great result this weekend, we earned more points than our opponents, and it’s a great start to the season.
