After naming Alonso as his greatest rival and even promoting him as his ‘Prost’, Lewis Hamilton, in an interview with the Spanish daily El Pais, reflects on those he considers to be his three greatest rivals.

We all believe we are the best, and that’s what we need to do, unless we like finishing second. The best are Alonso, Vettel, and Rosberg – whom I’ve known since I was 13. He is on the verge of proving himself at any moment. Sebastian is in a great period with Red Bull and has a lot of confidence.

Regarding the Spaniard, with whom the cohabitation had been explosive in 2007 at McLaren, the 2008 World Champion states that he is very talented and fully supported by his team. The whole team supports and follows him. He is the leader at Ferrari. I’m not saying it’s good or bad, it’s just the path they’ve chosen.

If the British driver had the upper hand over Nico Rosberg during their confrontation in Formula A in 2000, and matched Fernando Alonso in his first season with McLaren in 2007, it seems he still has to wait before adding Sebastian Vettel to his list of conquests, as he admitted shortly before the Spanish Grand Prix: «What can I do? It’s not really him we are fighting against, it’s all the others: Webber, Jenson, Fernando, Massa. »
