Friday: Productive Day at Lotus GP

After the Monaco Grand Prix, the Lotus Renault GP team seemed a bit more at ease in the promenades of Île Notre-Dame. Apart from a few issues encountered with Vitaly Petrov's car, and despite the repeated session interruptions, the British team had a rather constructive day.

Nick Heidfeld – 9th & 9th

A busy Friday, but without any problems on my end. We were able to test both types of tires and didn’t encounter any surprises. We just need to improve the overall balance with the super softs. Besides, the new rear wing and the DRS seem to be working well. The only downside is that I didn’t have the chance to do a long run this afternoon because of the red flags.

Even though it has improved, the track remains slippery and some have gotten caught out. It seems that the next two days will be cooler, and rain is even forecasted. So, it will be necessary to be responsive over the weekend. It’s nice to see so many spectators in the stands on a Friday, it was almost like a race day.

Vitaly Petrov – 14th & 8th

« The first session was quite frustrating because I didn’t drive much. To begin with, my radio had to be repaired. Then, the accelerator pedal had to be replaced. With a red flag as well, my time was really limited. But I was still able to do some good laps during the second session, and I found that the super soft tires offered more grip.

I was pleased with this second session because we completed the planned program. We set a good balance for the car and accomplished long runs. Overall, it was a constructive day. One parameter we need to consider is that the track will evolve throughout the weekend. So everything can change from one day to the next.

Alan Permane, Chief Engineer

Montreal is a circuit that can be demanding on the brakes. A good part of the first session was therefore devoted to this assessment, which included runs with a full fuel load and a few long stints.

We fitted the soft and super soft tires, without major issues in free practice 1 or free practice 2.

The special aero paint was used this morning for the evaluation of the new rear wing.

Vitaly lost time this morning, but it didn’t affect his preparation for the weekend, as he was able to complete many laps in the second session.
