The FIA would favor Ferrari according to Marko

The pill is still hard to swallow for Helmut Marko

The FIA’s decision to significantly curb blown diffusers starting from the British Grand Prix before completely banning them by 2012 continues to provoke reactions and sometimes even suspicion, as evidenced by Helmut Marko’s statements to the German daily newspaper Bild Zeitung: “Innovations such as the double diffuser and F-Ducts were both banned at the end of the season. Now, we see a ban during the season. It’s rather strange.”

What we hope now is that it doesn’t penalize us more than Renault, Mercedes, and McLaren, whereas Ferrari should probably benefit from it.

The right-hand man of Dietrich Mateschitz goes even further and accuses the FIA of acting in favor of the team from Maranello: “The decision seems to have been made to give them an advantage.”

It is indeed commonly accepted that the Italian team, whose car is suffering from a significant aerodynamic deficit at the start of the season, could be one of the main beneficiaries of the FIA’s decision. However, for Stefano Domenicali, who stated after the Canadian Grand Prix that Scuderia Ferrari might need to organize a pilgrimage to Lourdes to reverse the scenario, it is still too early to talk about a miracle concerning the blown diffusers: “We need to wait for Silverstone to know what the impact of the exhaust regulations will be. If there is a change, all I can say is that I hope it affects us less than others.”

In any case, on the Red Bull side, there isn’t much concern, at least according to Sebastian Vettel: “I don’t think it will affect us more than the others,” confides the young German to the press agency SID. “One can always wonder why it happens in the middle of the season, but as far as the championship is concerned, the road is still long: many things can happen, as we saw last year.”

Another reason also cited to justify this decision by the FIA is its desire to hinder the clear domination of the Red Bull team and thus revive the suspense of a championship that already seemed assured to them. Lewis Hamilton admits, in this regard, that the rule change should spice things up.
