Saturday: Happy Glock, Unlucky D’Ambrosio

No surprise, the Marussia Virgin cars are behind the Lotus, but interesting setups allowed Timo Glock to get ahead of the HRT cars. For D'Ambrosio, a mechanical problem disrupted his Q1.

Timo Glock – 21st

I am very happy with how things turned out this weekend and today my team did an amazing job, so thank you to them. A small mistake sent me into traffic on my second stint. Petrov slowed me down in the first corner, which forced me to move aside because other cars were on their fast laps, and I couldn’t make the most of my second set of tires. But overall, it was a good day. I was only three-tenths off Trulli, my lap was good, and we hope to have a good race with Lotus tomorrow.

Jérôme D’Ambrosio – 23rd

A bit of disappointment at the end of the day today. We were having a good weekend up until qualifying when something broke at the back of the car. But, in the end, it’s better that this kind of problem happens today rather than tomorrow. We still have the opportunity to have a good race.

« As we have seen many times this year, the results are mixed. Timo continued his momentum from the beginning of the weekend and made some configuration changes during FP3 that seemed to improve the car. Heading into qualifying, he was happy with the car’s balance. Unfortunately, we made a timing mistake on his second run, which undoubtedly cost him time and prevented him from setting a good lap. We look forward to tomorrow. Jérôme was driving well and trying settings during FP3. We also decided to make a significant change to his car for qualifying, after it showed results on Timo’s car. It’s always risky when the driver hasn’t used this configuration before, but Jérôme started off quite well. Unfortunately, on his second run, braking into turn 17, he felt an issue with the car. Based on the data and an inspection of the car, it turned out to be a problem with the rear spring. We’re going to inspect the cars in Parc Fermé and fix the issue for tomorrow, after which I am sure Jérôme can have a good race too. »
